If every country in the world had a version of radio legends KIIS FM or Z100, that would be Magic 89.9 in Metro Manila, The Philippines. It’s the flagship FM station of Quest Broadcasting Inc. – The Radio Partners Inc. It’s the country’s most listened-to pop radio station among teenagers and young adults. But what is the underlying wizardry of the station’s success? Is it the tricks or just pure magic?
To pull of a good show, every magic performer knows he’s got to have the right tools. Magic 89.9 or DWTM FM has everything it needs, from presentation, programming to events.
Magic 89.9 is manned with the country’s well-loved multi-media personalities: Andi9 (MTV VJ, TV Host), Mo Twister (TV Host), and Sam YG (TV Personality) among others.
Top-notch programs are also a staple of many listeners, including the nationally syndicated morning show “Good Times with Mo Twister” and evening primetime show “Boys Night Out”. Not to mention, Ryan Seacrest capping off the weekend with the AT40.
Magic is also the “Houdini” when it comes to events, gracing the Lady Gaga concert in August 2009 , promoting the Kobe Bryant Asia Tour in July 2009, and releasing CD Compilation, newest of which was the Friday Madness (a collection of 80s tracks from artists as Duran Duran, Tears For Fears, Wham!, and Michael Jackson).
The station’s imaging is a no ordinary card trick as well. Carlo Jose, production manager and the station voice of Magic 89.9 avails of first-rate imaging services. The station just signed in Austin Keyes (Benztown Voiceover Group) and the world-famous Kelly Kelly Kelly for its imaging.
Magic 89.9, like any other station, also played “escape artist” in the past years. The station survived and topped “The Battle of the Radios” era (late 80s to early 90s). And had to endure controversies and disapprovals from critics of such shows as Good Times with Mo Twister, which allegedly became offensive to listeners and its subjects.
Yet despite these, the curtains never closed for the station. It stills stands today as the most widely listened to station, continuously wowing its audience, constantly crafting creative programs, engaging events, and ear-catching presentations.
The station has been around for 23 years now, and they are still at it. Although they are laying their card on the table, one can’t help but say, Magic 89.9 is just but pure Magic.
